Meet your Teacher
Hello and welcome! The 2019-20 school year will be my 12th year teaching at Perry Middle School, and I'm very excited to again be teaching ELA and Social Studies with cross-curricular integration. My background is a mixed bag of years spent growing up in Mentor, Ohio and Vero Beach, Florida. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree from The Ohio State University and my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Ashland University. Before coming to PMS, I previously taught 3rd and 4th grade for 10 years at Perry Elementary and 11 years at Dodgertown Elementary in Vero Beach, Florida.
My husband and I are very family-oriented people. We have a blended family of 5 adult children, one granddaughter, one beautiful puppy named Bella, and two mischievous cats. I'm thrilled to say that all of our kids have graduated from college and are securely on their career paths. We enjoy visiting them often and still plan family vacations together. They tease me endlessly about my love for Walt Disney and our many vacations spent in the happiest place on Earth; in fact, they believe that in my retirement years I will be working at the Magic Kingdom!
Meanwhile, one of the most exciting things I'm involved in here at PMS are the spring musical productions. Mrs. Pat Bettely and I have had great fun co-directing together for the past 10 years, and are looking forward to show number 11! We have had tremendous support from our husbands, our "Dad's Crew," our Moms, and many community members who come together to help put on the show. It's been an incredibly rewarding and fulfilling experience.
I've frequently been asked how I arrived at the name Coconut Telegraph for this website? Actually, it's simple. I grew up listening to the musical sounds of Jimmy Buffet on the coastal shores of eastern Florida. My family and I still enjoy his music today! Click here to listen to Jimmy's Coconut Telegraph.
I'm super anxious to spend the year with my new students, and consider myself blessed to continue working in a career that I love! It's amazing to work with children, watch them grow and discover their potential. Now, with technology at our fingertips, the possibilities for discovery are endless! It's my pleasure to welcome you to 6th grade and to the many adventures that lie ahead!
